Everything At The Same Time: An Interview with Insika

Music, movement, and emotion all collide within the world of Insika. Blending electronic, pop, and experimental influences, the Chilean artist has cultivated a distinctive sound that pairs vulnerable songwriting with immersive visuals and captivating live performances.

From her debut EP Dear Diary to her recently released single “u in my bed,” Insika continues to build a creative universe that feels deeply personal while inviting listeners into something much larger. We had the chance to speak with the artist about finding her voice, connecting with audiences, and the exciting new chapter on the horizon.

Every artist has a starting point, and for Insika, it began with a song that no longer exists.

“The project started in 2023 when my boyfriend needed vocals for a song he was working on. I had always sung in private, but I had never stood in front of a microphone before. That was the first time I ever recorded a song. It was a chill romantic lofi indie track that no longer exists because we ended up deleting it cause we don’t really like it anymore

While that first recording may be gone, the experience sparked something much bigger, eventually evolving into the project listeners know today.

“After that, a few months passed before I recorded another song just for fun. I ended up loving the process so much that it gradually evolved into Dear Diary, my first project as Insika. It’s a four-track experimental pop EP inspired by my personal journals and the thoughts I had written down over the years.”

Born in a small town in Chile, Insika’s artistic voice was shaped by the music she grew up listening to, something that continues to influence her songwriting today.

“Although Spanish is my native language, I prefer to write my songs in English because I grew up listening to artists who sang in English so it just feels natural to me to write and sing in English.”

A World of Her Own

For Insika, music and visuals are inseparable. Every release exists within a larger world, one she carefully crafts through imagery, performance, and storytelling.

“I think my project has a very intense and emotional musical and visual identity. I try to translate the world I inhabit through music into every aspect of the project, from my stage outfits and music videos to Instagram photography, live visuals, and performance. I would describe the aesthetic as emotionally driven, with dark colors, low saturation, distressed textures, and layered fabrics. There’s a strong contrast between vulnerability and strength, creating a visual language that feels both sensual and powerful. For me, the visual aspect is just as important as the music, because together they build the universe that surrounds each song.”

That attention to detail extends far beyond social media posts and music videos. It comes alive most vividly when Insika takes the stage.

When asked what she is most proud of, her answer immediately returned to live performance.

“I think I’m most proud of my live performances because that’s where every aspect of the project comes together. It’s the moment when I can fully express the world I’ve created through the outfits, makeup, body movement, visuals, and, most importantly, the emotions that are shared in real time with the audience. As a Visual Arts student and artist, I worked extensively with performance as a medium, and when I was younger I trained in different dance styles and took many dance classes.

She continues,

Because of that, performing feels very natural and instinctive to me. It’s something I genuinely love and enjoy with my whole heart. I think that connection between music, movement, and visual expression is one of the things people tend to highlight the most about my work too.”

While performance may be where the project comes alive, some of the most meaningful moments happen after the show ends.

For Insika, building genuine connections with listeners has become one of the most rewarding aspects of her journey.

“Meeting the people who listen to my music is one of my favorite parts of being an artist. Every time I step off the stage, I end up talking to people who come up to tell me they loved the show, the performance, or that they’ve been listening to my music and following my project. Getting the chance to connect with the people who support what I do and relate to my work is incredibly meaningful to me. It’s amazing to see that something I created in such a personal space can resonate with someone else’s life or emotions. I think building those genuine connections is one of the most rewarding aspects of making music, and it’s something I truly cherish.”

With “u in my bed” now out in the world, Insika is already looking ahead to the next phase of her artistry.

“I’m very excited about my next musical chapter. Right now, we’re experimenting with new sounds that I feel could really bring out my most emotional side. I’m currently working on a new, larger project that will be released later this year. My team and I have put our whole hearts into it, and I’m really excited for people to finally hear it. This new stage feels very meaningful to me, and I can’t wait to share this next evolution of my music with everyone.”

When asked to share a statement that reflects her approach to creativity, her answer felt like the perfect summary of both the artist and the world she continues to build:

“You can be EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME”

Before signing off, Insika left readers with one final message.

“I would love to invite you all to listen to my upcoming single, ‘u in my bed,’ which is coming out this June. It’s the last release before we move into our next chapter as a project. And please stay tuned for what’s coming next, because I truly believe this new project will surprise you, and connect with your emotions. This next chapter is not only mine, it’s also for all of you.”
