Welcome to Precious’ Pop World: An Interview With Precious

For pop artist and producer Precious, music has been part of the picture for as long as she can remember. From watching music video marathons as a child to experimenting with production and releasing her own projects, her path has grown alongside her love for pop.

“My journey began with my love of music since as early as I can remember. As a child I would sit in front of the television for hours and watch music video marathons, growing inspired by artists like Beyonce and Lady Gaga.”

Her first steps toward making music herself came in high school, when her mom gifted her an acoustic guitar. Precious began posting covers to YouTube before eventually turning toward songwriting. When quarantine gave her more time to experiment, she began exploring a pop sound and sharing her work on TikTok.

“During the start of quarantine is when I started having more time to experiment with a pop sound and put myself out there on Tik Tok, which increased my audience greatly and led to me getting signed to an independent label.”

Born in a small town in Chile, Insika’s artistic voice was shaped by the music she grew up listening to, something that continues to influence her songwriting today.

“Although Spanish is my native language, I prefer to write my songs in English because I grew up listening to artists who sang in English so it just feels natural to me to write and sing in English.”

POP IS GETTING PRECIOUS

Visually, Precious describes her aesthetic as “very pink and girly,” with Y2K influences shaping her broader creative style. Sonically, however, she isn’t interested in staying in one place.

That evolution became especially important after releasing her self-produced pop project Flop Queen last year.

“I’m very proud of the new kind of music production styles I’ve been experimenting with, especially following the self-produced pop project I put out last year, “Flop Queen”. I find it very admirable for artists to constantly evolve sonically, so hearing myself doing that currently feels very rewarding.”

That attention to detail extends far beyond social media posts and music videos. It comes alive most vividly when Insika takes the stage.

When asked what she is most proud of, her answer immediately returned to live performance.

“I think I’m most proud of my live performances because that’s where every aspect of the project comes together. It’s the moment when I can fully express the world I’ve created through the outfits, makeup, body movement, visuals, and, most importantly, the emotions that are shared in real time with the audience. As a Visual Arts student and artist, I worked extensively with performance as a medium, and when I was younger I trained in different dance styles and took many dance classes.“

Performing has also become one of the most meaningful parts of her journey.

“The most rewarding part of everything has been getting to perform as much as I’ve gotten to at this point. It is truly my favorite part of all of this, and it really brings me to the present in how grateful I am to have anyone listening or caring at all.”

Now, Precious is preparing for another shift. A new project rollout is underway, including a single that moves toward a summery house and dance-pop sound, while conversations surrounding the business side of her career continue with her manager.

“I’m currently working on a project rollout, with my next single being something more summery with a house and dance pop vibe. I’m also chatting a lot more on the music business side of things with my manager and looking forward to what that brings! A big dream of mine has always been being able to be a touring artist, so hopefully that’s something that can happen for me soon.”
