Isabella Lovestory Is Rewriting the Rules of Reggaeton

For Hispanic Heritage Month, Anyway! Magazine is highlighting artists shaping music across genres, cultures and scenes. Honduran artist Isabella Lovestory has carved out a particularly colorful corner of her own, bringing together reggaeton, electronic music, fashion and an intentionally exaggerated approach to femininity.

Born Isabella Rodriguez Rivera and later based in Montreal, Lovestory began developing her distinct sound alongside producer Mura Masa. Her 2022 debut album, Amor Hardcore, introduced a world built around desire, image and self-expression, with Lovestory treating her visual identity as an extension of the music itself.

Tracks like Fashion Freak and Mariposa capture that approach. Her take on reggaeton is playful and provocative, pulling from club culture and electronic production while embracing the theatricality that has become central to her work.

A LOVESTORY LIKE NO OTHER

That world continued expanding with her second album, Vanity. Across the project, Lovestory plays with ideas surrounding beauty, sexuality, consumption and the way femininity is presented and perceived. Rather than stripping those ideas down, she makes them bigger.

It is part of what has made Lovestory such a recognizable presence in alternative Latin music. Her Honduran roots, Montreal upbringing and interest in fashion and underground culture all intersect without fitting neatly into a single category.

From Amor Hardcore to Vanity, Isabella Lovestory continues to approach Latin music without a rulebook, building a sound and image unmistakably her own.
