Developing in the far distance, the eye of TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s storm heads for the shores on November 16.
Better Tomorrows: TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s Latest Chapter
Debuting under BIGHIT MUSIC (sub-label of HYBE LABELS) in 2019, Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueningkai enter their latest era with their 9th EP PERFECT STORM, leading with the title track “Angel Bite”. Their group name meaning “coming together under one dream in hopes of building a new tomorrow”, TOMORROW X TOGETHER established their group sound with a dreamscape quality in mind. Whether escaping to a magical land in “Run Away”, embodying roughhouses after giving up on love in “Good Boy Gone Bad”, or clinging onto a lover with desperation in “Stick With You”, the group continues to introduce surrealist elements in their discography, “Angel Bite” being no exception.
Their concept trailer titled “PERFECT STORM: STORM IS COMING” captures the five members an indie-like filmography. The trailer begins with a concrete wall of a building in an open field nearby other urban buildings, graffiti filling the entire wall. Many of the quotes translated in English are the following: “For those who feel too deeply”, “The moment we cease to resist, we die”, “What truly drives me crazy is that I understand you”.
Check Out TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s “PERFECT STORM: STORM IS COMING” Concept Trailer Below.
Beomgyu – Cat’s Cradle
The phrase “New Happy” is written in Romanized Korean, peering behind Beomgyu’s head once he rests against the wall. Running away from some entity and getting a nosebleed in the process, he glances down to wipe his blood, noticing a stray thread on the shirt sleeve. Pulling the thread until it tangles itself, the “New Happy” phrase is motion animated onto a cat’s cradle. More hands are tangled with the same piece of thread, symbolizing a “string of fate” connection between the members before it gets cut with a pair of scissors.
Soobin – Cotton Candy
Holding a stick of blue cotton candy, Soobin stands chest-level in a lake near a forest. He draws the cotton candy below the surface, watching it dissolve into nothing. A lady bug occupies his hand, crawling along his body as he scans the sky behind him once he heard a crackle of thunder. He manages to escape the presence of lightning in the sky by ducking his entire body under water, seemingly unable to hear its roar.
Yeonjun – Rotor Ride
Entering a gravity-altering ride known as a “Rotor” found at state fairs, Yeonjun begins sticking to the wall inside the contraption. Equally smiling and strained faced, eventually, the Rotor’s location is revealed near an overpass in a grassy field covered with power lines. He attempts to walk around the field, losing his balance from dizziness and hitting the ground face first as he takes in the sounds of cicadas in the distance.
Hueningkai – CDs
The only cut-sequence of a member talking, Hueningkai uses a radio to communicate with another person as he occupies a small room filled with analog technology: CDs, an older computer, and TV displays with the hurricane featured on-screen. Cuts of thermal imaging, cyanotypes, and x-rays compliment Hueningkai’s monologue, encouraging his listener to open a window sometimes to invite the breeze of their storm inside, giving it a name even if it’s temporary, as long as the moment remains.
Taehyun – Surprise Balloons
Waiting out the rainstorm, Taehyun steps out of his car in the rain, opening the truck of his car as balloons pop out along with a “Surprise” banner. Various items such as a protein bar, a handheld radio, and a rain jacket are in the trunk, but left inside as Taehyun decides to remove his cowboy hat and dance in the rain. Grinning, sitting against his car on the ground, he takes in the heavy downpour, no longer avoiding the storm itself, but embracing it.
